The Mailbox[1] is an unidentified Altered Item encountered in the Investigations Sector of the Oldest House during the Hiss invasion. Its origins and official designation are unknown.
Background
The Mailbox appears to be capable of generating paranatural chain letters which warn readers to continue passing on the letters or else fall victim to "The Spooky Man Curse." This curse specifies that an entity called The Spooky Man will visit them and inflict misfortune of varying severity upon them. It is unknown if refusing to continue the chain will actually result in negative consequences or if the letters are in fact harmless in spite of their paranatural origin.[2]
Events of AWE
During the Hiss invasion, the Mailbox was corrupted by the Hiss and ended up in the Investigations Sector. Through the side mission Return to Sender, Jesse Faden may encounter the Mailbox via its chain letters and ultimate cleanse the item of its Hiss corruption.
