Corrupted Items are Altered Items within the Oldest House which have been affected by the Hiss resonance, and are "acting up," posing extreme hazards to anyone who encounters them in the field. Their demonstrated effects may or may not be the same as their normal uncorrupted effects. The term is primarily used by the Firebreak Initiative.

They can typically be subdued through the use of a Black Rock Neutralizer. Presumably, once neutralized, they return to their containment cells.

Many of the Altered Items encountered by Jesse Faden in the course of Langston's Runaways and Self-Reflection may retroactively count as Corrupted Items, as they were likewise encountered in the field and had to be cleansed of Hiss resonance.
