Leeches are paranatural entities (classification QE-1) that have appeared within the Quarry Threshold. They encrust on Black Rock in a fashion similar to barnacles, consuming its paranatural properties and rendering it useless for the FBC’s use as a protective material.
As a byproduct the Leeches excrete a white powder, which depending on the size of the Leech may condense into a hard sphere or "Leech Pearl", which is dangerously radioactive and after prolonged exposure can result in a condition called "Glow". Due to the threat posed to the FBC mining crews, Firebreak teams regularly travel into the Quarry to cull Leech numbers, gather as many pearls as possible, and transport them to a rocket for launch into the Quarry's orbit.
Summary
I propose a study exploring the relationship between entity classification QE-1 (commonly known as "Leeches") and the City beyond the Quarry.
The Leeches’ biology and behavior seems to indicate a biological dependence on Black Rock. They consume the Black Rock and then excrete a white powder and, depending on the size of the Leech, a condensed sphere of the powder. These spheres emit a unique short-wavelength electromagnetism capable of cellular damage. These same electromagnetic waves have been observed near the City by past expeditions.
My hypothesis is that the Leeches have traveled to the Quarry from the City and a possible further place of origin, seeking a new source of Black Rock. I would like permission to organize a research expedition to the City to [gain] insight into the Leeches' impact on that location and thus understand [their] potential impact on the Quarry.
