The Hotline Chamber is an area in the Executive Sector of the Oldest House.
Background
The Hotline Chamber, located within the FBC's Communications Department, houses the Hotline Object of Power, which functions as a direct line of communication with the Board.[1] The Director is the only person allowed to enter the Hotline Chamber and use the Hotline itself; anyone else who tries to use the Hotline will receive fatal psychic trauma from the Object.[2] However, Bureau janitors are still allowed to enter the Hotline Chamber for routine cleaning.[3]
Events of Control
During the Hiss invasion, Jesse Faden enters the Hotline Chamber to access the Hotline in order to receive clear messages from the apparition of the deceased Zachariah Trench. The walkway to the central chamber is not extended, so Jesse first traverses the Oceanview Motel via a conveniently-placed light switch cord, and upon her return the walkway has appeared.
Layout
The Hotline Chamber itself is a large spherical chamber with a small glass enclosure in the middle, containing the Hotline on a table and a small chair. Outside the chamber is a foyer with a security checkpoint, which initially only connects to the Mail Room. After accessing the Hotline during Unknown Caller, a new hallway appears which connects the Hotline Chamber all the way back to the inside of the Director's Office.
