I swear my left ear started hurting the second we walked in here. That's weird, right?

— Collins

Collins,[1] known in game as Ranger 1, is a Ranger in service to the Federal Bureau of Control.

Biography

Collins is one of the Rangers who followed Helen Marshall into the Research Sector in order to secure and restart HRA production, acting as her right-hand man. He can first be found with Marshall's group in Luck & Probability during the main story mission Old Boys' Club, providing Marshall with status reports and plans of action.[2]

After the main story mission My Brother's Keeper, Collins moves alongside Marshall's squad to Central Executive and assists her in fortifying the area and establishing personnel recovery efforts.[3] Following The Face of the Enemy, when Marshall leaves and Simon Arish takes her place, Collins continues in his role by helping Arish manage Ranger operations.

Collins is highly professional and courageous around his superiors but also shows a more deadpan and informal side. He was once an avid gambler, but he stopped after a Bureau researcher told him that luck was a living entity.[4]

  1. Marshall: "Collins, any word on survivors?"
Ranger 1: "We've located numerous Safe Rooms with survivors inside. We're waiting on HRAs before we open them. Once we can safely bring them out, the survivors will be escorted here straight away."
    Marshall: "Wonderful. Keep me updated."

  2. Marshall: "Collins, what's the situation?"
Ranger 1: "Squad C hasn't made it back. They're still out there, which means we should assume they're KIA, ma'am. Only exit is back through Parakinesiology, but then there's no way we're making it to the lab. Only option is to hold here and wait for an opening. Then we put everything we got into one final push."
Ranger 2: "We wouldn't last a minute out there! You saw what those things can do. We need to retreat. If we stay here, we're dead."
Ranger 1: "Marshall said we need more HRAs. If you want to go sit in a corner and suck your fucking thumb, don't let me stop you, but no one will be calling you a Ranger afterwards."
Marshall: "The fight's not in here, Rangers. Let's look for alternatives."
