Events
Background
In June of 1958, a set of subterranean implosions during a Youth Science League archaeological dig caused three sinkholes to open on Meteor Hill in Sawyer County, Wisconsin, revealing "foreign material of magmatic qualities" and injuring many of the boys performing the dig.
Some came into direct contact with the material; although they later recounted the experience as pleasant, they were discovered screaming, and experienced physical deformities and pigmentation loss during their envelopment.
Response & Followup
The Bureau arrived on the scene seven days after the event, sealing the area from the public. Although some samples were taken, the majority of the material descended too far into the earth to retrieve. The Department of Public Knowledge and Diversions successfully publicized the incident as being caused by debris from poorly-made Russian satellites.
Subsequent examinations of those who made contact with the material showed they had also experienced psychological alterations had also occurred, such as confusion and heightened aggression. All child victims were sent to a Bureau recuperation facility to receive help away from society.
Acquired materials were delivered to the Bureau's laboratories in Washington for further study, though tests were halted as it began to physically elude the equipment. Once it was physically restrained, it became vaporous, leading to multiple researchers' deaths by fatal corrosive injury.
